I now live in Canada, but grew up in Caerleon, and lived at Beryldene, Broadwalk. I was close friends with Heather of the Banner family 11, Broadwalk, Heather was the godmother to my eldest daughter, but we lost touch when I lost an address book. Heather married, her married name was Crapper. There were four siblings, a brother, three sisters, Paddy, June and Brenda, Heather was the youngest. Could anyone who has any knowledge of this family, specifically Heather, please email me: runcible@sympatico.ca
(nee Glenys Shierson).
Is there anyone out there who is related to any EDWARDS or EVERSONS from Caerleon? If so please get in touch as both these names are in my family tree. My mother was an Edwards and my great, grandmother was an Everson.
Hope to hear from anyone who is interested. Email: laviniahemingway@hotmail.com

I
was wondering if there were any Watkins left in Caerleon
that I might be related to. My Grandfather John Godfrey Watkins was born in Caerleon in 1875. His father was Octavius Watkins
who married Emma Griffin, born in Flax Bourton. My grandfather
moved away from Caerleon at the turn of the last century and after
a short time in Colwyn Bay, where my father (also called John
Godfrey Watkins)was born, moved to Essex. I have details of the
Watkins family tree going back to about 1773 and would love to
hear from anybody still living in Caerleon who might be a relative.

I
am building up a database of student teachers who trained at
Caerleon Training College between 1914-1965. This information
has been collected from various sources during the past three
years, in connection with research and writing on the history
of the College. I
will search the database for anyone who thinks an ancestor or
relative trained at the College during its first 50 years. There
will be a small charge for this service (£2.00 postal reply
or £1.50 email) PayPal is available. For further information
please contact: r.rawclisse@btinternet.com The database includes the names of all the students who
fought in the First World War, with details of their regiment
etc, also information on the location of the memorials of the
12 who died for their country. The
University of Wales, Newport intends to set up a searchable online
database of its considerable collection of College photographs
- including sporting or drama activities etc for each year. Most
of these carry the names of group/team members. I am trying to find the descendants of Frederick
Jones and Magwen Jones who are recorded as living at 29, The
Broadwalk, Caerleon in 1934, 1935, 1955. There was a daughter
- Olwen Jones. Frederick Jones was my father's brother. Please
email David Jones at: azusuk1@aol.com
My father, John Atkinson (known as Jack), was the owner of the Bulmore Lido.
My parents were tenants of the Bell Inn from the late 50s until
we went to live at the Lido in caravans which were placed at the
end of the Ladies changing rooms. I went to the Caerleon Infant
and Junior Schools from 1958 to 1963 and remember Primrose Hockey
when she was Headmistress of the Junior School. I would love to
hear from any classmates. Sarah Harford nee Atkinson - email on sarah.harford2@btinternet.com
My
father was born in Caerleon in 1909 his name was Robert John
Stewart. I know my grandfather was living there when he was
21, he was born in 1880. My grandfather had had at least 2 brothers
- John Arthur Frederick & Earnest Rupert Stewart and they
lived in Ash Cottage in 1914. If there are any relatives
still living in Caerleon I would love to hear from them. If anyone
can help please email Linda
Cousins (nee Stewart).
My
name is Danae Rees and I am looking for any information related
to the Rees family of Caerleon. In particular, I am looking
for anything linked to Henry Oliver Rees who later migrated

I
am searching for a copy of The Living Village by
S G Deane to buy. I have found whilst doing my family tree that
I am related to the Bennett family of Caerleon and am told that
there is a lot of lovely information contained in this book from
the family. Like memories from Lola Bennett who lived in Caerleon
till she was 104. Also Gordon Bennett who tells of about the boats
that my Great great Grandfather owned. I would love to be able
to have a copy of this book and so if any one has one to sell
or could tell me where I could get one I would be very greatful.
Thankyou very much - Elizabeth Thorne email: izzydavey1@hotmail.com
My name
is Jean Williams (nee Martin) I trained at St Cadocs in 1955. After completing my training I moved to England and worked
in several hospitals until I retired four years ago. I live in
Maidenhead and would be delighted to get in touch with people
with whom I knew during training. My name at that time was Jean
Martin and I remember many happy times spent at the Drovers pub.
I wonder if it still exists? I am currently using my Daughters

It would be great to have news of anyone. It was a long time ago,

1851 to their deaths in 1898 Evan and 1891 Elizabeth. They lived
at Backhall Street. Evan was a Stone Mason. Is anyone able to

Sue Barrell here - taught Geography at Caerleon from 1972-1993,

those students who I had the pleasure to teach. I'm still
in the USA, living in New Jersey. My email address is sbarrell@verizon.net should anyone have the time and inclination to contact me with
news. Be well. Be happy. Sue.

approximately 1954 until I joined the Army in September 1963.
I attended Caerleon Junior and Secondary Modern Schools, and worked

I am looking for biographical and general information about
the late Professor Gabriel, described by Primrose Hockey in
her book "Caerleon Past and Present" as Professor of
History at Caerleon College of Education. He was actively involved
in historical research relating to Caerleon, and made a number
of important archaeological discoveries in the 1930's and
40's. - in particular of Roman burials. I have access to his
large collection of notes and records which I hope to catalogue
for the benefit of other researchers.

I have just started researching my family
history. I am trying to find out any details concerning William
Mclaughlin, who I believe was a Blacksmith in Museum Street around
1936. I know he is listed in Johns directory in 1936 along with
Lorna Nash, Telephone Call Operator at No 7 Museum Street. Other
than this I have no knowledge. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm led to believe that motorcycle world champion Gary
Hocking, described throughout his career as Rhodesian, was
in fact born in Caerleon. It is also possible that following his
tragic death at a South African car race in 1962, his body was
brought back to Wales for burial. Extensive web searches have
so far failed to confirm any of this. Having discovered Caerleon.Net
today I thought I'd try to get help from the website. Any
information would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I wonder if any budding historians out there can help me find
the answers to a few questions about Caerleon Football and Cricket
Clubs; and dates of 2 major events in the village… Can anyone
tell me when the Football and Cricket Clubs were formed;
the date when part of the wall surrounding the Mynde collapsed and the date when part of the (then) college was destroyed
by fire. I think the collapse and fire both occurred in 1992
but I'm not sure.
I can be contacted by e mail on: tony.jermyn@btconnect.com

ANNE HUGHES/JENNIFER ANNE SHIPSTONE
I am trying to trace my first cousin. She was born on 15th
December 1944 in Nottingham and moved to Caerleon when she was
a child, with her parents, Kenneth and Olive Shipstone. In 1964
she married Gareth J Hughes. That is all I know, so I would be

Lincolnshire when I was two or three years old, but I still have
some family who live in Abergavenny (where my father, Jim, came
from). But the thing is, I'd like to know if there might be
some long lost relatives of mine, or anyone who knew of any, stilling
living in or near to Caerleon. Any information would be much appreciated.
The family-name is 'CHAPMAN', if that's any use ?

I lived in Caerleon from '68 to '81 and went to all three
Caerleon schools (Caerleon Comp from '74 to '81). I left
in a hurry and have only been back a few times. I've never
managed to bump into any old friends but would be delighted to
hear from anyone who remembers me. I was Lynn Ward back
then and was one of a brood of five, including a twin brother,
Murray.
