I was born and bred in Caerleon, but have not lived there for quite a while. However, I have heard that help is needed but I don't know who to ask....

Does anyone in Caerleon know that it is highly likely the Weslyan Methodist Chapel in Backhall / Church Street will close very soon ?

Yes, this is fact.

The few remaining congregation there have raised over £25,000 themselves for essential repairs. Sadly, it is not enough and the chapel will be closed to all ( - and probably sold for building yet another highly desirable residence for one lucky buyer.... ??? )

The National Lottery have not thought the old community building worthy of a grant and it seems, is not used enough by the community to be worth saving.

 I believe the Chapel is used for part of the Caerleon Arts Festival occasionally and offered for other community events.

Sorry to ramble. I know there are people in Caerleon who still care passionately for their village life. Are there enough to make a difference though ?

Would appreciate your thoughts on where to go or who to go to for help.... maybe avenues not already tried. If you have any ideas, please could you drop a note in to the chapel. My Mum is there every weekend and some weekdays.
