Roman soldiers showed their military might in Caerleon's amphitheatre on the weekend of July 13th and 14th 2002. The event, displaying the power and discipline of the Roman war machine, attracted large crowds.
The main contingent of Roman soldiers was made up of the Ermine Street Guard from Gloucester, who this year celebrate their 30th anniversary. They were backed up by four other re-enactment groups:  the Exeter based Isca Contubernium; the Antonine Guard from Scotland; Legio VIII Augusta from North Wales and the Gemina Project from the Netherlands.
Younger visitors who signed up for the Junior Legion went away with certificates and photos for the family album.
To cap it all, the weather behaved itself… altogether a truly memorable experience!
