Footnotes

A note about the calendar... When viewing early entries it might help to know that prior to 1752 the New Year began on March 26th. Hence, for example, January 1st 1745 came after July 1st 1745!

Accuracy of information... If you find information you are looking for in these pages, we strongly advise checking with the original documents (see below).

The St Cadocs records were originally transcribed and typed (on a typewriter!) by Dave Woolven in the 1980s. The original registers, and copies of Dave's transcriptions, can be viewed in Gwent Archives, Steelworks Road, Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, NP23 6AA, Tel. 01495 766261. E-mail: enquiries@gwentarchives.gov.uk  Website: www.gwentarchives.gov.uk/

We thank Dave for his help with this project, also the Canon Arthur Edwards, Caerleon Vicarage. Dave is still engaged in transcibing a wide range of historical documents. His contact details are: Dave Woolven, 2 Aspen Way, Malpas Park, Newport, South Wales. NP20 6LB Tel 01633 858359.
